Vocalpoint! Seattle Girls Prep
Auditions for the Girls Prep program of Vocalpoint! Seattle are held every two years. Auditions are open to girls entering seventh or eighth grade, and are by appointment only. Girls Prep is a two-year program designed to prepare girls for entry to Vocalpoint! Seattle, the mixed-voice high school ensemble of the Northwest Choirs. (High school age boys enter Vocalpoint! Seattle as graduates of the Northwest Boychoir.)
Our next auditions will be held by appointment in May of 2012. We will be auditioning 6th and 7th grade girls who will be entering 7th and 8th grade in the fall of 2012. Contact our office for more information. 206-524-3234 or nwc@northwestchoirs.org.
Auditioning girls are asked to prepare a solo piece for the audition. The solo should be either an art song, a Broadway show tune, or a selection from classic rock `n roll repertoire. Those auditioning should bring sheet music for the accompanist. A small group of girls will be asked to attend a call-back audition, which will consist of a series of music drills in a rehearsal setting to establish a more thorough sense of the individual's musical aptitude, as well as how the girls work together in a group. Not only will talent play a factor, but also the girl's interaction as part of the group. The remainder of the audition is spent in conversation with the auditioning girls to establish a sense of character and potential commitment. New members will be selected from the call-back group.
A small group of capable girls is admitted to each Girls Prep class, ensuring a highly-focused learning environment. Students will acquire the musical skills required for successful participation in Vocalpoint! Seattle, including sight reading, rhythm, voice production, music theory, and performance skills.
